center representatives
First and foremost, the UBC Daycare Parent Council is composed of parents who represent
each of the centers at UBC Daycare - up to two from each center, at the discretion of center staff.
The parent representative brings any issues from the parents of their child care center to the attention of the council.
The parent rep also acts to convey information from the Council to their center's staff and parents,
through routes such as parent meetings, emailing to a parent list, and general availability for discussion.
Each parent rep has one vote in Council decisions. As such, parent representatives set the Council's agenda and provide
a key communication conduit between parents and the daycare's administration.
Beyond this, the Council provides to parent reps a platform of support, volunteer/activist power and in some cases,
funding from which to launch initiatives which may have real impact on children and their families throughout the institution (for example, see Annual Goals). Parents sometimes become reps when they see a problem they'd like some help in fixing.
